Vaginal Ultrasound The standard of care for evaluating the uterus and ovaries usually involves doing a vaginal ultrasound. The transducer is of a high frequency which means the resolution is better, and the probe is much closer to the uterus and ovaries so the image is clearer. Vaginal ultrasound isn't usually performed on women that haven't been sexually active. While it may seem like it would be uncomfortable, its actually not bad. The best part is that your bladder has to be completely empty for the vaginal ultrasound so you will be more comfortable than the trans-abdominal ultrasound. And of course you will be completely covered up. Click on the picture below to watch a demonstration of a vaginal ultrasound.
